Use the following rules for hyphens.
- Do not hyphenate following these prefixes unless clarity requires it: anti, co, dis, extra, inter, intra, macro, micro, mis, multi, non, over, pre, re, sub, super, ultra, un.
- To shorten redundant modifiers like ‘low-income and moderate-income borrowers’, use this format: low- and moderate-income borrowers, or full- and part-time associates.
- Use hyphens when 'year-end' and 'month-end' are adjectives, but use 'year end' and 'month end' as nouns: year-end report; by year end.
- Use hyphens in multiword modifiers when all the words are required for the modifier to make sense: middle-market companies, high-net-worth individuals. Do not use hyphens when these phrases are used as nouns: serving the middle market.
- If the first word in a hyphenated phrase is capitalised, subsequent words are not, unless they are proper nouns: Long-term disability, not Long-Term disability.
