There are ways to reduce the amount of text that will still keep the meaning of what you are trying to say.
Reduce word and character counts
Cut these vague or filler words every time (the bolded words can be removed without changing the meaning). Exceptions are rare.
- such (“Always take such measures to ensure quality.” Exception: 'Such as…')
- just (“Math is much easier if you just round the answer.”)
- that (“Look at the package that you sent…”)
- really (“Use a password that’s really easy to remember.”)
- very (“Our products are very cutting edge.”)
- please (“Please Remember to fill in your Social Security Number.”)
- In order (Turn the key in order to open the door)
- On a daily basis (he does this on a daily basis)
Word replacements
If you’re writing for mobile UIs, the text must be short enough to fit a small screen. Here’s a summary list of simple, shorter words to reduce character counts:
