Use the following rules across the product:
Title case
Use Title Case (capitalise the first letter of each major word) for:
- Primary navigation items
- Button text
- Page titles
- Headings
- Tabs and breadcrumbs
- Product and module names (follow trademark capitalisation, e.g., Chemical Manager)
Exceptions that stay lowercase even in Title Case:
- Articles: a, an, the
- Coordinating conjunctions: and, but, for, nor, or
- Prepositions of four letters or fewer: with, of, for
- The word to in an infinitive (How to Set Up Your Computer)
Always capitalise the first and last word.
Sentence case
Use Sentence case (capitalise only the first word and any proper nouns) for everything else, including:
- Input labels and description
- Dropdown items
- Radio buttons and checkboxes
- Tooltips
- Table headers and cell text
- Tags and alerts
- Any other non-navigational or non-action UI text
Additional rules:
- Capitalise the first word of each sentence
- Proper nouns keep their usual capitalisation.
- Use lowercase when referring to generic UI elements (toolbar, menu, button)
Avoid ALL CAPS
Avoid using UPPERCASE/ALL CAPS. It is harder to read and can feel like “shouting”.
